Gavin Smart first picked up the tuba at the age of sixteen, and was soon playing in most of the top Regional and National Youth orchestras in Scotland. In 2000 he was a featured soloist, culminating in a performance of the Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto in the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He then moved to London to study on both the classical and jazz courses at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Gavin performs a wide variety of musical styles and is equally happy in an orchestral brass section, as he is in a big band, and performs many concerts with London’s top early jazz group, the Silk Street Hot Seven, as well as with the Heritage Orchestra.
