Martyn Grisdale

Lead and Feature Trumpet

Martyn Grisdale studied trumpet at Cardiff University with Andy Cuff and later at the Royal College of Music (supported by the Sir Philip Shelbourne Award for Brass) with Paul Archibald, Andy Crowley and Mike Lovatt. Whilst at the RCM, he played principle trumpet with the college’s Symphony Orchestra for the RCM’s 125th Anniversary concerts under John Wilson and for the BBC 3 recording of Helmut Lachenmann’s piano concerto, Ausklang under Piere André Valade. He performed Richard Strauss’ Festliches Präludium at the first night of the Proms 2008 with the RCM Brass Ensemble and was also lead trumpet of the Royal College of Music Big Band, representing the college by playing lead trumpet with the Conservatoire’s UK Big Band in 2008 as part of the International Association for Jazz Education’s (IAJE) final Annual Conference in Toronto, Canada.

Martyn has worked for Royal Caribbean and P&O cruise lines and has played principle trumpet with the London Telefilmonic Orchestra for Cesare Cremonini’s Maggese tour featured on Top of the Pops & CD:Live. He frequently plays for the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the West End’s Rat Pack, Live from Las Vegas and is currently lead trumpet for UK tour Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Recent deps include shows such as the West End’s Phantom of the Opera and Sweet Charity and touring shows One Night with Elvis and The Magic of Motown Show. He has recently toured Spain with The Golden Section brass ensemble and has also recorded the music for the film Me And Orson Welles to be released this Autumn.
