Saxophonist Sam Bullard achieved a first class honours BMus (jazz) degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in July 2005. He studied under Tim Garland, Stan Sulzmann and Simon Haram amongst others. He is equally at home in the jazz and classical worlds.
Sam enjoys a wide range of musical work in a wide variety of venues! He has performed with ensembles as varied as the BBC Big Band, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the London Jazz Orchestra, the Delta Saxophone Quartet and worked in theatre orchestras such as the Guys and Dolls UK tour and Jersey Boys (London). He has also led his own jazz quartet at the 606 Jazz Club in London. He recorded for the 2007 BBC Three Television comedy series ‘Thieves Like Us’.
Sam is a founder member of the Heritage Orchestra, a large contemporary music ensemble. With them he has performed at the Barbican Hall (London Jazz Festival) and at the Miles Davis Hall (Montreux Jazz Festival), and has recorded for a BBC Radio One session and a commercially released album.
Sam is an active teacher for Lewisham Music Service and Westminster Under School. He has also taught at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and on Michael Garrick’s ‘Jazz Academy’ summer school.
