Simon plays lead and jazz trombone, is a composer, arranger and band leader and also lectures in composition and performance. Without a formal music education himself, Simon studied trombone and jazz with Bill Watrous. A former winner of the national BBC Big Band Don Lusher Award, Simon has been a busy performer in the UK and Europe both as soloist and section player.
A varied playing career includes bands such as The Steve Taylor Big Band, Take 5, Jazz de Carcassonne, Wonder Brass, The Memphis Belle Orchestra, The John Miller Orchestra and the Nathan Bray Swing Band, some show work and several radio and television broadcasts. His own recently formed jazz/funk unit, Hardcore Horn have performed at Music Live.
