Toby Kennedy

Saxes (Sop, Alto, Tenor, Bari) Clarinet, Composer, Arranger

Toby Kennedy is a Saxophone/Clarinet specialist. He has played alongside such players as John Dankworth, John Surman, Pete King and the BBC Big Band. He is in high demand for both session work and shows, having recorded with many artists, and performed in countless shows - such as Hello Dolly, The Wizard of Oz and Guys And Dolls. Toby currently has several of his own projects on the go, including his own 10 piece mini big band, The Filthy Dirty Big Band, for which he writes all the music. Toby regularly DJs around the country, mixing Funk, Soul, Disco and House, and is great demand as a producer/remixer.

Toby Kennedy is also prolific composer and arranger with an impressive portfolio. He has written for countless ensembles, and in countless idioms including big bands, orchestras, choirs and recently a re-write of Mendelssohn's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" for Brass Dectet.

He has written music for several videos, including Nottingham's Drugs Education video, and was commissioned to write the music for a dance production of William Golding's "Lord Of The Flies".

Current projects include Toby's own 10 piece big band, The Filthy Dirty Big Band, who are currently recording their first album, and is also working with producer/DJ Tony Global writing horns for the forthcoming album. Toby regularly writes horn section parts for function bands and studio sessions.

As an educator, Toby has taught for Suffolk County Music Service, Nottingham Arts In Education Service, and is currently Saxophone/Jazz specialist at Uppingham School and Head of Wind, Brass and Percussion at the London College Of Music Junior College. In addition to this Toby has run workshops across the country for such companies as the Arts Council of England and the ABRSM.
